My Story
Growing up a gymnast turned high school cheerleader, it’s surprising to many that I became
obsessed with soil! My fascination with soil health began in 2011 with a soil microbiology course at
Texas A&M University, where I earned a BSc in Bioenvironmental Sciences (BESC). Today, I have the
honor of serving on the BESC Board of Professionals.
While many of my peers pursued corporate careers with large consulting firms, I navigated a less
conventional path. My interests led me to professional experiences in vermicomposting, aquaponics,
urban farming and horticulture research. These diverse positions have placed me at the intersection
of scientific theory and real-world applications.
Nothing is more rewarding than taking theoretical knowledge and figuring out how to practically apply it to various contexts in the field! The microscope has proven to be my most valuable tool to facilitate this process as it brings clarity to an invisible world that directly impacts our goals as land stewards.
My life’s work is dedicated to soil health and science communication. I aim to ignite curiosity, provide
useful insights, and support others in the journey of restoration and better composting.
For me, this work is about:
• Finding our role within natural processes and learning to be in relationship with them
• Restoring soil’s functionality to support healthy vegetation without costly inputs
• Enjoying the fruits of a thoughtful approach - be it nutrient dense food, regeneratively grown
fiber, a resilient and biodiverse landscape, or safe turf for recreation
What might the world look like if we were more integrated with our outdoor environments? If we
recognized that environmental health is human health?
I aim to do what I can to contribute to that world as it’s one I hope to leave for future generations!
